What Will They Create? Assemblage Show Update
You may have heard that Art From Scrap’s Assemblage Event is back! It’s true. After a hiatus, What Will They Create? is back and better than ever. The theme for this year’s event is Mischief!
The Assemblage Art Event has been a beloved Santa Barbara institution since its inception in 2002. For each show, various objects have been used as themes; cigar boxes, books, picture frames… the list goes on and on. This year, we are asking artists to use a piece of discarded artwork to create a new piece of assemblage art.
Interested artists (age 18 and older) can collect their entry forms at the Art From Scrap (AFS) Retail Store, during regular business hours (Tuesday-Friday 11:00 am – 5:00 pm and Saturday 10:00 am – 4:00 pm). All art must be turned in on Monday, March 3rd to Art From Scrap. Selected art will be on exhibit at the Art From Scrap Gallery from March 8th through April 5th. The public is invited to come to the Art From Scrap Gallery during that time to bid on the artwork in a silent auction.
Artwork will be sold during the closing night party on Saturday, April 5th, from 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm. Admission costs $10.00 per person. Proceeds benefit Art From Scrap’s art programming.
This year promises to be a fantastic event with lots of amazing art, a photo op with the infamous Bob Debris, music with DJ Darla Bea of KCSB FM, food, and entertainment. The Assemblage Muse for 2014 is Dan Levin, whose art will be the centerpiece for the exhibit.
What Will They Create? is a juried art exhibition. This year’s judges include Charles Donelan, Executive Arts Editor for the Santa Barbara Independent, Gregory Corso, Publisher of Santa Barbara Seasons, Dug Uyesaka, Santa Barbara County Second District Arts Commissioner, Jeremy Tessmer, Gallery Director at Sullivan Goss and Holly Mackay, Artist. The prestigious Hollister Family Awards with cash prizes totaling $1,000 will be presented to the the first, second and third place winning artists.
