EXPLORE ECOLOGY VIRTUAL CAMP

This Summer, Explore Ecology Camps are going virtual! We will be offering week long camps that meet via Zoom daily from 9:00 am to 11:00 am Monday through Friday. Campers will enjoy projects, connect with each other, and most importantly have fun while safe at home. Explore Ecology Educators will play games and lead activities to create the fun of our camps in the safety of your own home.  We will also send you a list of activities to help engage your camper throughout the day.

Camp signup also registers you for our Explore Ecology Clubhouse. Each afternoon after camp, you can join us for two optional creative activities or take a break and jump back in for camp the next day.

A week of virtual summer camp costs $100 per camper. While things may be different this year, our experienced educators are committed to providing your child with an extraordinary Summer Camp! As always, our camps will foster environmental stewardship, focus on experiential learning, and inspire campers to connect with nature.

EXPLORE ECOLOGY ONLINE CLUBHOUSE

FAQ

What is included in camp cost?

Your $100 camp cost will cover a week of virtual summer camp with up to 4 hours of guided instruction each weekday. Explore Ecology Educators will play games and lead activities to create the fun of our camps in the safety of your own home.

The camp cost does not include project materials. A materials list will be given to parents for the camp session and will include things you probably already have like crayons, scissors etc. The list of materials may also include items like egg cartons that can be reused in art projects. Each activity will be flexible so that campers can use whatever they have at hand.

What is a day of virtual camp like?

Explore Ecology Virtual Summer Camps start at 9:00 am and end at 11:00 am. Morning camps will have two educators and be capped at 20 children. We will be doing a check in each morning, lead campers through hands on activities, and play games. Morning sessions will be interactive and fun just like our in person camp.

Each afternoon from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, campers can join us for the online Explore Ecology Clubhouse. Access to the Clubhouse is included in your Summer Camp registration cost. The Clubhouse features two 45 minute activities suitable for children of all ages. Your camper can choose to join us if they like. The activities will be guided and there will not be a cap on attendance.

How much time will my camper spend on Zoom?

Each morning we will have a two hour Zoom for campers to connect, do activities together, and have fun. If two hours online is enough for your camper, then we’ll see them the next day. If they like, they can attend our Explore Ecology Clubhouse. Campers can spend up to 4 hours daily on Zoom with us, but we understand that can be too much screen time on some days. This is why our afternoon Clubhouse is separate from camp and is optional.

How familiar do I need to be with Zoom?

Not at all! We can show you how to use Zoom. Campers need access to a device that can use Zoom during camp hours.

What materials will I need?

Every camper will need a device to log into Zoom and a space where they can do the day’s activities for camp. Each week will have a list of items to gather from around your house that you most likely already have. We will be focusing on reuse materials and will provide substitute recommendations for less common materials.

How involved do I, the parent or guardian, need to be?

Campers should be able to manage camp activities on their own. With our new online format, we ask that parents are near enough to their camper so that they can hear them. While we will be doing our best to keep everyone engaged, ultimately guardians will be responsible for the safety of their camper. If a camper chooses to log off or turn off their video, our educators will assume that they are safe at home and not online with camp that day. If a parent wants to take part in any of our afternoon Clubhouse activities, we encourage them and/or the whole family to join us for the afternoon.

What’s the difference between the morning and afternoon sessions?

Morning camp is capped with 20 campers and includes a check in with camp leaders and more “hands on” attention from them due to small camp size.

The afternoon Clubhouse is optional, themed, has unlimited registration, and may include more than 20 campers.

Camp Expectations

We encourage everyone to have their video on Zoom enabled to make face to face connections, but it’s not a requirement. Please note, we cannot track the engagement of your camper without seeing them. Expectations are the same as any other summer camp. Respect for each other, our environment, and camp leaders is expected from all camp participants.

Morning camp will encourage connections and idea sharing, but sometimes we may mute campers in order to reduce background noise or allow educators to describe an activity. Participants will be muted for the majority of our afternoon Clubhouse.

Are there breaks?

Stretch breaks will be incorporated throughout our morning camp. If your camper ever needs to step away to get a snack or use the bathroom, they can just go for it.

Our afternoon Clubhouse will include a 5 minute break in between activities. These are a drop in format so campers and families can leave the Zoom whenever they please.

Are there any outside activities?

We know the importance of getting outside and away from screens. Our educators will be holding classes from our school gardens and showing us the beauty of nature whenever possible. While we are not able to go outside together, camp activities will encourage nature exploration. When you sign up for camp, you’ll receive a list of activities that families can do outside.

If we miss a session, can we make it up?

If you miss an activity that’s okay, you can join us the next day. We will not be offering make up sessions for any part of the camps that were missed.

What if we can’t get on Zoom due to a technical problem? What should we do?

We all know the internet can be tricky and unreliable at times. We will have a test Zoom call on the Thursday before camp starts to help you navigate through any technical issues. Each morning campers will be let into the Zoom camp session by educators. This can take a few minutes. Contact Rachel if you have issues with Zoom or any difficulty getting into the class. Unfortunately, we cannot help with unstable internet connections and ask that you test this out before signing up for virtual camps. That being said, sometimes technical difficulties happen and we will do our best to help.

If I have other questions, who can I contact?

For any questions or concerns please contact our Camp Coordinator Rachel.
