Lucidity Universe: A Day and Night of Creativity at Art From Scrap
On Saturday, February 1st Art From Scrap and the Lucidity Festival are presenting The Lucidity Universe, a day and night of art, creativity, storytelling and music.
From 10:00 am -3:00 pm there will be two Interactive Art and Story Telling Workshops. The workshops, taught by Lucidity art facilitators, are suitable for both children and adults.
The Create Your Own Universe workshop is based on the work of Joseph Cornell. Workshop participants will create mini-universes out of recycled containers and materials.
In the Story of Your Universe workshop, the mini-universes will be brought to life with storytelling.
Both workshops will take place simultaneously. Participants can flow from one to the other as inspiration guides them. $10.00 includes materials and up to two hours working with Lucidity artists, on a first come, first served basis. Selected pieces will be featured in The Lucidity Universe exhibit in the evening.
At 10:00 am, there will also be interactive booths in the Art From Scrap parking lot where people can learn about decorating up-cycled leather with T&A Leather and watch wood-carving demos with the Burly Brothers. DJ Macyntire will provide music during the day.
From 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm, the Lucidity Universe Art Exhibition opens at the Art From Scrap Gallery with an Artists’ Reception and Party.
The evening’s festivities kick off with a Crystal Bowl Sound Healing and include music by DJ 9lives, refreshments, live painters and surprise dance performances.
The Lucidity Universe exhibition will be at the Art From Scrap Gallery from February 1 to February 22, 2014.

Melissa Dodos developed her passion for creative reuse as a mother of four and elementary educator over the past 25 years. She loves to inspire creativity by connecting people with resources and ideas.
Veronica grew up in San Diego and spent four years in San Luis Obispo studying Animal Science at Cal Poly. As an undergrad she learned lots about livestock, agriculture, and wildlife.
Stephanie began her journey as an educator over twenty years ago working as a preschool teacher in Washington state for a cooperative preschool program affiliated with Whatcom Community College. She loved observing the wonder and curiosity of the children and bringing them out into nature to explore the natural world. She continued her love for learning and got her teaching license and then her Montessori certification and worked as an elementary teacher in Tribal, Public, and Montessori schools. She collaborated to create a school garden and her students loved it so much that it became a special place where they could garden, read, explore, play, and it provided a safe sanctuary for students to calm down and reset when they were having difficult moments.

Morgan’s mermaid soul is always seeking adventure—swimming a relay across the Santa Barbara Channel and taking the first photo of a newborn orca off Anacapa Island being standout experiences close to home.
