Santa Barbara Seed Swap
11:00 am - 4:00 pm

Don’t miss the 14th Annual Santa Barbara Community Seed Swap at a brand new location! Join us for this year’s event at the airy and spacious Santa Barbara Community Arts Workshop (with both indoor and outdoor space) on Sunday, March 20th from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. We are excited to announce that Explore Ecology’s School Gardens Program will be honored as the 2022 Local Food Hero at the Seed Swap this year. Join us for the Awards Ceremony at 2:00 pm.
Explore Ecology Garden Educators teach children how to grow food in 30 elementary schools throughout Santa Barbara County. Using the garden as an outdoor classroom, students learn about planting, cultivating, harvesting, composting, and nutrition. Students in our School Gardens Program grow organic vegetables, healthy bodies, and lasting friendships. We are very grateful for all of the little green thumb gardeners we work with at local schools. Teaching them how to grow food and seeing them excited about being outside during their school day is so rewarding!
Join us and become part of the seed saving movement- making sure that locally adapted seed and plants are passed onto future generations.
Local groups will have plant and seed related exhibits with many sharing valuable seed saving techniques that encourage local gardeners to grow out and harvest some of their best seeds for future gardens and seed swaps. Enjoy lectures, workshops, children activities, and live music.
Seed saving is a fun and easy way to connect to the circle of life and helps to make Santa Barbara County a truly food secure community.
Bring seeds, plants, cuttings, and garden knowledge to swap. If you don’t have any, come anyway and start seed saving in 2022.
The Seed Swap is hosted by the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network. Learn more at www.sbpermaculture.org.
Co-Sponsors of the event include: Island Seed & Feed, Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, Blue Sky Biochar, Explore Ecology, Art from Scrap, and the Santa Barbara Permaculture Network.

Stephanie began her journey as an educator over twenty years ago working as a preschool teacher in Washington state for a cooperative preschool program affiliated with Whatcom Community College. She loved observing the wonder and curiosity of the children and bringing them out into nature to explore the natural world. She continued her love for learning and got her teaching license and then her Montessori certification and worked as an elementary teacher in Tribal, Public, and Montessori schools. She collaborated to create a school garden and her students loved it so much that it became a special place where they could garden, read, explore, play, and it provided a safe sanctuary for students to calm down and reset when they were having difficult moments.

Morgan’s mermaid soul is always seeking adventure—swimming a relay across the Santa Barbara Channel and taking the first photo of a newborn orca off Anacapa Island being standout experiences close to home.
