Earth Color Workshop

March 17, 2019
11:00 am
- 2:00 pm

$45

For thousands of years humans have worked with pigments from plant, animal, and mineral sources found in the wild. The search for and discovery of unique colors in nature has shaped human History, Culture and Science. Immerse yourself in this practice and discover the color all around you.

Visiting artist, Robin Whitfield has a spectrum of Mississippi based mineral and plant based materials she calls “Earth Color”. Colors may come from mud, leaves, berries, flower petals, mushrooms, or mineral deposits. Robin will share her Mississippi perspective and basic process for coaxing color out of natural materials, while also guiding the discovery of the color in our local area. There will be self-guided exploring with squishing, smooshing, grinding, drawing, painting, and rubbing colors on watercolor paper as a part of curiosity driven discovery process. Everyone will make or find their own mark making tools, pigments, and process.

This three hour workshop will include all material necessary to explore earth color, three hours of instruction, and a light snack and drink.

Please note that we will be walking near Hendry’s beach, so please wear comfortable shoes and be prepared to be outside.
