Celebrate Earth Day At The No-Waste Earth Exhibition
Recycled Art Is Showcased At Art From Scrap Gallery
Celebrate Earth Day on Saturday, April 26th from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm at No-Waste Earth, a recycled art exhibition reception and opening at the Art From Scrap Gallery.
Funded in part by an Arts Enterprise Grant from the Santa Barbara Arts Collaborative and Santa Barbara Foundation, No-Waste Earth is a community art show exhibiting ten local artists and their work made from recycled materials.
Guest curator Jami Joelle Nielsen says, “No-Waste Earth is a community recycled art exhibit with a focus on environmental themes. Featuring 10 local artists, this exhibit reveals the personal motivations and passions behind the chosen themes, giving artists and viewers an opportunity to reveal their raw sentiment regarding the destruction of our planet, while encouraging knowledge and action on social and environmental issues.”
Artists were asked to express their passions and concerns about an environmental issue that is personal to them, using materials typically destined for the waste stream. Artists are encouraged to use “trash” for their materials, anything that might be discarded and considered waste by the average person. They were allowed to use paints, adhesives and hardware.
Artists exhibiting in No-Waste Earth include: Mary Balda, David J Diamant, Elizabeth Mitchell, Kimberly Hahn, Dan Levin, Holly Mackay, Jami Joelle Nielsen, Judy Nilsen, Mary Price and Adali Marquez.
The evening includes food from the Isla Vista Food Co-op, music and Ethical Recycled Jewelry by Fatima Arletta Rahmanovic available for purchase.
Entry is FREE and a portion of sales benefits Explore Ecology and Art From Scrap. In addition, artists are encouraged to donate 5% of their sales to environmental causes of their choice.
No-Waste Earth will be on display at the AFS Gallery from April 19th -May 22nd.Art From Scrap Gallery Hours: Tues., Wed., Thurs., & Fri., 2-5, & Sat. 10-4.
